On November 10, the Chicago Council on Science and Technology hosts “Gene Patenting: The Economic, Legal and Health Dilemma.” This program presents the science behind gene isolation and a panel of experts representing different viewpoints on this issue at the forefront of the public concern. A special addition to this program is a mock legal argument conducted by experienced patent trial lawyers introducing the key legal concepts involved in determining whether human genes should be patented. The Midwest Regional Conference of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers: Energy is Everything - Game Changers takes place November 10 - 11 at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Student Center East, Chicago. The keynote address will be delivered by Nick Spencer, Business Unit Leader of the BP Whiting Refinery and Modernization Project. He will speak about the rich history of this massive refinery in Whiting Indiana focusing on the reasons for the modernization project and building to sustain the refinery for the future. A second keynote, “Improving Energy Efficiency in Industrial Use: Why Water Matters” will be delivered by Dr. Narasimha Rao, Nalco Division Vice President of R & D, Innovation Marketing.
